I belong to an organization called the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA). The mission statement reads…”The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA), an International, membership-based organization, represents professional photographers skilled in the documentation of weddings and events in a candid, unobtrusive style. The WPJA was founded to uphold excellence in the area of wedding photojournalism.” Every year there are a few contests for photographers to enter their photos and I thought that I would highlight the ones I entered this year. Unless indicated, all these photos are not posed, just photographed as things happened.

Getting Ready: While it looks like Deborah is deep in thought, I believe she is just trying to go over her vows. I like this photo because it’s a glimpse at a quick, but interesting, moment before the ceremony.

Getting Ready: Tammie is getting ready with younger members of her bridal party looking on, I wonder what they’re thinking about?

Getting Ready: One of Jessica’s sisters getting her hair done. I like how they both have similar expressions and hand motions in this photo.

Getting Ready: Sarah and Brian were married at the summit of Mount Washington and Sarah had to put the finishing touches on in the first aid room (fortunately she didn’t really need first aid). I think this photo is funny because you normally don’t see a bride getting ready in this type of environment and it makes you wonder why she’s in there.

Details: This is a to do list from the wedding of Brenda and Jim. Weddings are often extravagant events with color coordinated table decorations and professionally designed programs, but sometimes you just have to get things done with a scrap of paper from a note pad.

Details: Matt decided to make some custom changes on his card to Adrienne.

Ceremony: The best man, Jim, and the minister waiting outside the ceremony site. I like the contrast between the dark suits and sunlight streaming into the windows.

Ceremony: Jessica’s crew heads to the church. This church had great natural light and it’s a nice candid moment of the bridal party heading in.

Ceremony: Brittany and Jonathan exchanging vows. This was a beautiful ceremony site at Castle in the Clouds and the expressions on their faces make for a great moment.

Ceremony: Adrienne and Matt leaving the church, I like the lighting in this photo.

Ceremony: Elaine and Erich taking off. A candid moment of Elaine giving the thumbs up.

Portraits: While this photo isn’t exactly posed, it was taken when I asked Elaine and Erich to walk down a path for some fun portraits.

Portraits: Brenda and Jim spending some time on the dock at the summer camp where they met and were married. A sweet moment and I like the lighting of the setting sun.

Reception: A fun moment with Jessica and Erich walking in.

Dancing: A crazy dancing photo from the wedding of Jennifer and Greg. I hope this guy doesn’t track me down after seeing this posted.

There was still some left over fall color for Barbara and Michael to enjoy on their wedding day in Jackson, New Hampshire. We even woke up to an inch or so of wet snow in the morning. Barbara and her crew getting ready:

Brenda and Jim couldn’t have asked for better weather on their wedding day. Actually, a little warmer would have been nice, but otherwise it was sunny and the fall colors were still out. They are both climbers and had cool table pieces with descriptions of some of the places they’ve visited together. As I’ve said before, it’s always nice to have something in common with the couples I work with and it looks like I’ve been to 16 of the 22 locations they highlighted (I need to hit Seneca, WV and some peaks in the CO Rockies).

Brenda and Jim met while working at Boston University’s Sargent Center for Outdoor Education, this dock has special meaning for them.
